- Sekhmet is the ancient Egyptian goddess of protection and healing.  She was the protecting aspect of the creator god. Her name, “the Powerful one” or “the One who loves Ma’at”.  

- She was a protector of the pharaohs of Egypt. Yet she was also a great healer who could cure any illness or disease. She was the patron of physicians and healers.

- Sekhmet is a solar deity, sometimes called the daughter of Ra and often associated with the goddesses Hathor and Bastet. Sometimes she is seen as the daughter of Geb (earth), and Nut (the sky).

- Sekhmet was depicted with the body of a woman with a lion head wearing a sun disk.
